Critical Care Unit, Sheffield

The proposed scheme looks at combining Neuroscience, Intensive Care and High Dependency at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, and encompasses the entire 11th floor of the main hospital tower block.

The layout utilises the existing glazed facade of the building, creating open plan bed spaces and allows natural light to flood the unit. Glazed partitions allow the light to enter the areas in the central core of the plan, using intelligent privacy glass to allow for maximum functionality of the unit.

The 29 bed unit combines a mixture of Level 2 and Level 3 beds and also isolation rooms with the capability of treating Category 4 Patients. Different colours and finishes are used to demarcate the various bed areas, allowing for easy identification by both staff and visitors.
